Gate OCR Downtime Plan: Offline Mode, Backups and Recovery

This article is about Gate OCR at terminal and plant gates, which reads plates and container numbers from passing vehicles. It is not the GATE text-engineering framework used for document analysis. Like any gate equipment, it will sometimes fail, and a written downtime plan decides whether that causes a short pause or a queue to the road.

Planning for failure at the gate

List what can stop the lane: a dirty or damaged camera, a cut network cable, a power dip, a server fault or a software error. For each, note who is told, how long the lane can run without it and what the fallback is. A plan on paper is far better than decisions made under pressure with trucks waiting.

Offline mode and the manual fallback

An offline mode lets the lane device store reads locally and sync them when the link returns. If reads fail entirely, gate staff switch to a paper or tablet form with the same fields: plate, container, time and driver. Backups, spares and power

Back up the database and images to a second location on a schedule, and test a restore at least once. Keep spares of parts that fail first, such as lenses, power supplies and network switches. Recovery and catching up the records

When service returns, enter any manual records, mark them clearly and reconcile them against system reads. Record the cause and the time lost, and update the plan if a step did not work.
